Stretch your prescription dollars
Believe it or not there are several ways you may be able to save money on your prescription medications. Even if you may not be able
to reduce your copay, opting for the lowest cost medication can help reduce the cost of medications for your plan sponsor which can
ultimately help to reduce the total cost of the benefit to you.
- Talk to your prescriber about any lower cost alternatives that may be available. This includes generic medications or
other lower cost brands within the same therapeutic category.
- If your program has a preferred medication list associated with it, take the list to your prescriber so they can prescribe
a preferred brand or generic medication. This keeps your copay as low as possible and reduces the cost of the prescription benefit
for your plan sponsor.
- Ask your prescriber if there is a long-acting option that can be taken once daily which reduces the number of units,
therefore lowering the cost of your prescription. This is especially helpful if you have a percentage copayment and helps
reduce the cost of the prescription benefit for your plan sponsor.
-
Use our drug pricing tool to compare the cost of your prescription from one pharmacy to another.
-
Consider the option of mail order for your maintenance medications or medications which you will be required to use for longer
than a couple months.
